What Lantern does
Lantern is a calm reading Bible with a place to write. You open a passage of Scripture, and alongside the text you capture what you see in it. Your notes are anchored to the specific verses they belong to, so when you come back to that passage weeks or years later, your earlier study is still sitting beside the verse where you left it.
Notes are kept in four kinds, so a passage can be studied from several angles:
- Observation — what the text actually says.
- Historical context — the background behind it.
- Application — what it asks of you.
- Personal reflection — what you want to remember.
Who it is for
Anyone who studies the Bible and wants their own notes to stay with the text instead of scattered across notebooks and other apps. It is a private, single-person study tool. Nothing you write is public, and there is nothing to buy.
Why Lantern asks you to sign in with Google
Lantern needs to know which account your notes belong to, so your study is there the next time you open it on any device. Signing in is the only reason Lantern uses your Google account.
When you choose Continue with Google, Lantern requests only your basic sign-in information — your email address and basic profile (your name). That is used to create and identify your account, and to show your name in the app.
Lantern does not request access to Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts, or any other Google service, and it does not read, send, or store anything from them. Google sign-in is optional — you can sign in with a one-time code sent to your email address instead.
Your data
Your account and your notes are stored so the app can show them back to you. They are not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared for marketing. The full detail is in the Privacy policy, and the Terms of Use cover the rest.
